In case you really must know ...
1. I have two calico cats.
2. One is named Catarina (nicknames: Rini, BRK -- for big Rini kitty, and La Mala) and she understands Spanish.
3. The other is named Chloe (only one nickname: La Buena), and she understands French.
4. I don't feed Chloe enough wet food. (For here, there is no such thing as enough.)
5. I am a pretty crummy housekeeper.
6. I want to put up a sign in my house that says, "A clean house is the sign of a dull woman" (but I just haven't yet).
7. I have a personal motto: "Think big thoughts, relish small pleasures," and I recommend that everybody have one.
8. I grew up in Lakewood, CO.
9. I lived in the same house for my entire life, until going to France at age 18 for a year after high school.
10. The schools I've attended in my life are: Patterson Elementary, O'Connell Jr. High School, Alameda High School, Lycée Ambroise Paré in Laval, France, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
11. From 1990 - 1995, I counted that I moved 15 times, an average of three times per year.
12. I've lived in Louisville, CO, since 1999 - five years, which is two more years than I thought I'd be in this house.
13. I studied French and Spanish literature as an undergraduate.
14. I wrote an Honor's Thesis at CU entitled "La Bourgeoisie as seen in Le Père Goriot and Madame Bovary." It wasn't really that great, but I graduated cum laude.
15. I honestly don't remember the title of my Master's Thesis, but it was about the representations of the Feminine in the two books Realidad nacional desde la cama by Luisa Valenzuela and El cuarto de atrás by Carmen Martin Gaite; I did an emphasis during my Master's program in Women's Studies. Nobody has ever asked me about my Master's Thesis, even in job interviews! (how crazy is that?)
16. I'm embarrassed that I'm a Phi Beta Kappa (don't worry if you don't know what this is).
17. My mother is proud that I'm a Phi Beta Kappa, and calls me "her Phi Beta Kappa daughter/driver/cook/etc." or whatever suits the occasion.
18. My parents divorced when I was little.
19. My mother raised me and my older brother on a teacher's salary, with little help from my father.
20. My father lives only ten miles away from me but is not a part of my life.
21. I happen to know where he lives because my cousin the lawyer did a search on him.
22. I have a terrible coffee addiction.
23. I sometimes spend as much money at Starbucks as I do on yarn in a month.
24. I watch my friend's little girl periodically because my friend in turn buys me Starbucks Gift Certificates.
25. I'd watch my friend's little girl anyway, but the gift certificates help.
26. I'm going to freak out when Starbucks discontinues the Pumpkin Spice Latte as it gets warmer. (edit: they just did! I'm doing a lot of self-talk to work through this)
27. I actually worked at Starbucks for a summer, after receiving my M.A. (a very stereotypical thing to be in boulder, a barista with an M.A.).
28. I was a cheerleader in High School.
29. Despite that, I wasn't very cool. I was also in student council and edited the school newspaper.
30. I also rode my bicycle from my high school to Taos, New Mexico, three times during high school on a school trip called "The Taos Tour." (315 miles, over four mountain passes, in case you were wondering)
31. I was actually the vice president of the bike club, although I now mountain bike more than road bike.
32. Since having my two kids, I've become a terribly fearful mountain biker (what if I fall? what if I break a leg?), and it's ruined mountain biking for me.
33. I've also become a really slow driver since having kids.
34. My son was born in 1999, and is named Conor and has red hair. I call him my Irish baby.
35. My daughter was born in 2002, and is named Lia (short for the Irish name Liadin), and looks just like me.
36. My son was more beautiful than my daughter as a baby.
37. But I love myself more for having my little girl because it's made me accept myself more (with all her imperfections, she's still the cutest little thing around to me).
38. My kids are watching TV as I write this.
39. I really love the parenting style of Love and Logic.
40. When I was in college, I was in a sorority (A O Pi).
41. I hated being in a sorority, and likened living in a sorority house to spending a year at a slumber party that you can never go home from.
42. I don't have anything against my sorority -- it just wasn't for me, as I have a pretty independent personality.
43. I also say that the Greek system is for leaders, and followers, and I was neither.
44. I almost went to Law School.
45. I scored in the 95th percentile on my LSATs, which was actually (way) better than my GREs.
46. I have a terribly obsessive personality.
47. I prefer to think of it as perfectionist, although I'm terrible at not finishing projects.
48. Before I learned how to knit, I had a short period of time in which I obsessed over laminate flooring, which culminated in me installing laminate flooring over almost my entire upstairs, or about 800 sq ft.
49. I'm a terrible athlete.
50. But I try to stay in shape and I've even done a Body-for-Life challenge (it was awesome).
51. I generally hate to exercise, though.
52. I'm a terrible cook, but I love my crock pot.
53. I thank God that my husband enjoys cooking.
55. My husband and got married in 1998, outside in Estes Park, CO.
56. We were going to get married on a mountain top, but it rained that day.
57. It was still a very beautiful day, and I'll never forget looking at the misty-topped mountains while saying our vows.
58. My husband is ten years older than I am.
59. We met when I was doing my student teaching at his high school, Nederland Jr/Sr High, where he taught English and Social Studies.
60. I really like to teach.
61. I'm teaching part-time at a community college right now, while I stay home with the kids.
62. I may go back to teaching at public schools next year, as we are becoming quite broke trying to make ends meet on his salary.
63. We spend $500/month for health care! I hate this bill more than any other.
64. I've also worked as a mortgage loan officer for a year, a job that I seriously hated, but I made a lot of money.
65. I drive a 1994 Honda Accord.
66. I'm rather proud that I drive a ten-year-old car these days.
67. I'm 5 feet 7 inches tall.
68. My favorite hairstyle is a ponytail.
69. I've been highlighting my hair for years, and since I've had kids my hair has gotten much darker (I think).
70. My very favorite shoes in my entire life are my Dansko Mariah clogs in Cordovan.
71. I currently have many eBay searches on other Dansko shoes ongoing in my size (39).
72. I have an amazon wish list.
73. I also have a knitpicks wish list. (I'm not sure if this will link or not, but I do have an email copy saved, just in case I ever need it)
74. I'm running out of things to say about myself.
75. I learned how to knit two years ago exactly (March 2002) from my mother in law.
76. She taught me to k and p, and from there I obsessively read knitting books until I learned everything else.
77. For having knit only two years, I think I'm a fairly accomplished knitter.
78. For having knit for two years, I have few nice sweaters of my own to show for it.
79. For having knit two years, I understand how amazing the craft is and how there will always be room for improvement.
80. I'm supposedly working on my master's knitting certificate (for TKGA).
81. I'm stalled on my level I, and I can't quite figure out way ... too boring to knit the swatches? am I not good enough yet to embark on this? am I scared of not passing? or am I too busy? I think it's a combination.
82. I have an eBay store.
83. My eBay store helps to support my yarn addictions.
84. I've been blogging since Aug. 2003.
85. I've really enjoyed my knitting blog a lot more than I thought I would.
86. I thought my blog would help me finish projects faster, but it hasn't.
87. I like the saying, "Wherever you go, there you are."
88. I have strong Buddhist tendancies, but I'm not a buddhist.
89. I wouldn't mind becoming a buddhist, but I just haven't quite gotten to that in my life yet.
90. I play the flute.
91. I play the piano.
92. I'm trying to learn Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts music.
93. Did I mention that I spent three months in Guadalajara, Mexico?
94. I really love to knit baby sweaters, baby bootees and other baby stuff.
95. I think this is because I didn't get to make these things for my kids, so I'm making up for lost time.
96. I'm a member of the Boulder S-n-B but I rarely make it.
97. I'm the (current) vice president of the Boulder Hand Knitting Guild, but I also don't make those meetings all the time.
98. I have enjoyed the people that I've met through my knitting groups.
99. My middle name is Beth.
100. My other middle name is James (was my maiden name, sort of like Hilary).
101. I spell my first name with one N.
There you have it! I did it! Phew.

Hi Jen, I happened on your blog completely by accident. I knit however not to your level. I knit squares, all different colours, patterns etc and then sew them together and donate them to charity for homeless people. Loved your list.

I just found your blog today and I enjoyed reading your list. I don't normally make it past the first 15 items of anyone's list, so you really held my interest. I have been knitting seriously for the past eight years and I don't have one sweater of my own to show for it. Perhaps this will be the year that I change that! | |

Hey girlie. Thanks for the great list. We have more in common than I even thought--did you know I was a women's studies major who studied French and Spanish literature (literature of colonialism in the Americas) for my BA? LOL. Don't ask me anything, I can barely speak either language anymore; my grad work and professional work snce then has had nothing to do with my undergrad since I graduated into a recession saying "I speak three languages; would you like fries with that? Avec frites? Con papas?" Sigh. Anyway, thanks for the peek into the world of Jenifer. And I've always thought it was fun that your first name eschews the double letters while your last name is rife with them. But then I'm weird. You already knew that. PS glad the kitty is okay. | |
