Welcome to my blog, named after the less-famous elevation of my suburb here in Colorado (the more-famous being 5280, that of Denver). Here you'll find me pondering life and knitting, and everything in between. Thanks for visiting, and drop me a note!

FO Report: Clapotis III (Hey, that rhymes!)

FO Report:  Clapotis III
Designer:
The amazing Kate Gilbert
Pattern Source: Knitty (here)
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden in #37 (6 skeins)
Needle Size: US 8

Gauge:
 18 sts = 4" more or less
Date Completed: June 2005
Recipient:
me (of course you know this by now)

Yes, just call me the FO ho.  (Sorry to subject you to these silly rhymes. It's not even like I'm a good poet ... but hey we can all dream, can't we?)  I'm just in a finishing mood these days. (Looking at my whole spread of yarn that I'm trying to re-organize is doing that to me.)

Well, feel free to look back over Clapotis I and Clapotis II to remember what fun I've had with this pattern.  This one, however, took forever, mainly because I kept throwing it into the corner of my living room and forgetting about it.  (I know, forgetting about Silk Garden is somewhat blasphemous to us Noro freaks.)  The warming temps didn't help at all, though.

Overall, I'd say that I like it.  I really like it in Silk Garden, and though I haven't yet given it the hair conditioner soak and toss into the dryer for 10 minutes to really soften it up (that's the trick to making Silk Garden give you some love if you didn't know already), I will do that soon enough.  I will say that I think I used too much yarn on this ... I think 400 yards might have been perfect, with a somewhat narrow scarf.  This pretty much isn't a scarf, but it's an enormous wrap.  (Enormous.)  That's okay ... wraps are the new poncho, right?  But I'm not even left with quite enough yarn to make the most-adorable-and-needed Clapotis Hat, which would have been nice.  (Someone left me a recent comment, and had just completed one of these ... I commented back to her, but then forgot who it was ... was it you? Give me a shout and I'll edit you in here as it was so darn cute!)

Generally, I say that I can work a pattern three times before it's out of my system ... but after seeing several versions of this scarf worked in sock yarn, I think I'm going to have to get me a couple of hanks of Knitpicks sock yarn to make a nice little lightweight set next.  But I have  plenty of time for that, right?  As for the artsy-fartsy closeup that Clapotis lends itself so well to:

Now, what's the next shocking FO to appear on my pages ... shall it be the Cathay top that was discarded once I'd almost completed one side and realized that I'd cast on 10 sts too many ? ... or shall it be the not-even-yet-blogged-about-chunky cardigan from the Spring issue of Vogue that's been 80% completed since I started it that week I got my magazine? ... or perhaps one of the many knitalong projects that I'm sure some of you out there are just dying to see (completed)?

As in all matters in this blog, time will tell, because my next entry will be, "In which the Big Sweetie conjures up a few more ideas for new blog titles, and Jenifer expounds upon that subject."

(And I mean it this time!)

(And there's still time to enter into the contest if you haven't yet!)

Pretty, pretty, pretty. 3 of them, eh! I'm working on my second (in smaller yarn, so I'm hoping it will be scarfish; my first was huge). Congrats on the belly ring, by the way. All I can say is "ouch," but more power to you!

De-lurking to say -- Lovely Clapotis!

Re your blog name contest, I thought I remembered reading that you had halfway decided on a name. But if it's still up in the air (so to speak, at 5440 - ha), here are a few ideas:
Stash Diva
Yarn Diva
Yarn Threads
String Theory
Stringing Me Along
Heartstring Knitting (or just "Heartstrings")

I kind of like the last the best.

Good luck in the site work! ;o)

I love how it came out almost perfectly striped. Definitely one of the prettiest Clapotii I've seen [and we've all seen quite a few, huh?] ; )

Lovely! Those colours are really pretty. Thanks for the noro tip too... although I doubt I'll be using silk garden any time soon. ;)

Since I guessed the Cathay top, yes, do that one or the purse ;^)
